Photographs of Windsor Artist on Display at Duncaster Art Gallery throughout October

Duncaster Art Gallery to display Windsor native's work.

BLOOMFIELD, CT, Sept. 17, 2014 - The Duncaster Art Gallery will be showcasing a new exhibit in October featuring the photographs of award-winning artist Leonard Hellerman. There will be an opening reception at Duncaster for the exhibit on Sunday, Oct. 5 from 4- 5:30 PM. The exhibit will be open Monday through Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. until October 31.

A native of Windsor, Hellerman’s works often feature landscape, floral and nautical motifs. His photographs are part of the permanent collections at the New Britain Museum of American Art and the William Benton Museum of Art of the University of Connecticut in Storrs. His work has received awards form the West Hartford Art League, the Essex Art Association and the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts.

“Photography has given me a great amount of pleasure in my lifetime,” Hellerman says. “Ever since the age of twelve, when I was introduced to its magic, I have been fascinated by it. It has been my principle means of artistic expression. My photographs have appeared in The Hartford Courant, The Sun Sentinel newspaper, and Connecticut Magazine. I was a principle contributor to three editions of the book, Hartford, New England’s Rising Star. Sixty-four of my photographs, including the front cover photograph, appear in the current book, entitled, Hartford: Photographic Moments of the People, Places, and Lives in Our Region.”
