Poquonock School Thanks Windsor Volunteer Fire Department

The Wilson Volunteer Fire Department Donates $1,000 to Help Fund Annual School Book Fair

Poquonock Elementary School would like to thank the Windsor Public School Board of Education President, Mr. Leonard Lockhart, and the Windsor Volunteer Fire Department - Company 2 (Wilson) for donating $1,000 to help fund their annual school book fair.

“This year we faced the challenge of limited funding and a finite amount of Scholastic Dollars, which is the purchasing power in our annual book fair,” said Nancy Field, Poquonock School Library Media Specialist. “After Mr. Lockhart encouraged me to write a letter to the Wilson Volunteer Fire Department, I was delighted when I was informed that they would help us maintain our commitment to our students.”

Thanks to this donation, Poquonock School was able to provide each student the opportunity to choose and keep one book from the annual book fair, free of charge. Poquonock School has been making this commitment to their students for several years with the belief that students choosing a book to own is powerful and supports lifelong reading.

“We do have some students who wouldn’t be able to afford a book without this program in place,” added Field. “We thank the Wilson Volunteer Fire Department for their generosity and helping to make this program possible for our wonderful students.”
