Schools to Hold Educational Series on Proposed All-Day Kindergarten, Elementary Consolidation

Starting March 1, Windsor Public Schools will hold a series of educational forums on the proposed consolidation of the town's elementary schools and the implementation of all-day kindergarten.

Windsor Public Schools are inviting residents to attend a series of educational forums on the proposed consolidation of Windsor's elementary schools and the creation of all-day kindergarten classes.

The series of forums comes on the heals of the completion of a study conducted by a special task force of parents, teachers, administrators, board of education members and community members, in conjunction with an outside agency, to review a number of options to enhance the efficiency of school space and improve early-childhood education.

The task force held a special meeting earlier this month, during which the best option for elementary improvement was presented. Known as "Option G," the proposed restructuring of schools would reduce the number of elementary schools from five to four, with two schools providing education for students in grades 3-5, and two schools acting as pre-K through grade 2 institutions. The schools serving kindergarten students would provide full-day classes, something Superintendent Elizebeth Feser sees as an integral part of the effort to close the achievement gap and improve academic performance throughout the district.
