Uyi Osunde Named New Principal of Windsor High School

New Principal looks forward to working together to make Windsor High one of the top high schools in the Greater Hartford Market

The Windsor Board of Education has selected Uyi Osunde to be the new Principal for Windsor High School. Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Craig Cooke recommended Osunde’s appointment to the Board at the April 5th Board of Education Special meeting that was held at the LP Wilson Community Center.

Osunde currently serves as assistant principal at Illing Middle School at Manchester Public Schools since 2013, where he collaboratively works to advance academic initiatives, improve curriculum, school climate and parent/guardian relationships. He successfully works with district leadership, support staff, team leaders and teachers to address the academic, social and career aspiration needs of more than eight hundred students. Previously, Osunde worked as a high school counselor for East Hartford and New London Public Schools, where he fostered and monitored the development of students with an emphasized focus in academic achievement, goal setting and attainment.

“Mr. Osunde impressed us from the very beginning of the process with his commitment to children. Growing up in a family of educators, it is clear that he takes education very seriously, said Dr. Craig Cooke, Windsor Superintendent of Schools. “I know that he will apply his philosophy of school counseling, where he felt his job was to make sure all students achieve their goals, to the entire student body of Windsor High School. His most recent experience as an assistant principal has prepared him well for this new position. He also has a commitment to furthering his own growth as he pursues a doctorate in education through UConn and is involved in numerous committees and district initiatives.”

Osunde will replace Russell Sills, now the current Windsor High School Principal. Sills has been appointed as the new Director of School, Family, and Community Partnerships. The Director is a new central office administration position funded through a $390,000 grant from the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. Sills has led Windsor High School for eight years, implemented impressive growth in Advance Placement scores and participation, significantly increased four year graduation rates and added additional programming such as AFROTC and STEM classes.

"I am extremely honored and excited to join the Windsor Community, said Uyi Osunde. I am looking forward to working with like-minded colleagues to advance the mission of the district and continue to build to establish the school as a beacon in the community. The goal is to work with parents, staff, community partners and, more importantly, the kids to make this one of the top high schools in the Greater Hartford Market."
