Windsor High School Culinary Students Invited to Houston for Final NASA HUNCH Culinary Challenge
Veggie Meatball Recipe Competes Against Nine Other Schools Across the Country

Four Windsor High School’s Culinary Arts III students have made it to the finals for their veggie meatball recipe in the annual NASA HUNCH Culinary Challenge. These students have been invited to the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas to compete against nine other schools across the country on April 21, 2016. The team includes Alijah Comer (Team Leader), Jamiyah Barnaby-Anderson, Lydia Maldonado, and Beaudie Ofsuryk.
Students have learned about food in a microgravity environment and developed a recipe for a vegetable entrée that meets the nutritional criteria NASA has set for its astronauts in space. These students researched and determined the most appropriate method to prepare the food for space and how to reconstruct the dish once it is there. The food must also last for three years and still be tasty to the astronauts.
Over the past few months, students have been finalizing their recipes, working on a research paper, and a two minute video to submit to NASA for the culinary cook-off. Dr. Florence Gold, a representative from NASA also visited Windsor High School in February to evaluate the student entrees along with judges from the local community.
