Windsor High's Blood Drive Builds Leadership Skills for Students

31 pints of lifesaving blood collected has the potential to save up to 93 lives

Windsor High School is continuing their commitment to the American Red Cross Blood Services. Their recent blood drive, held on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, included a total of 46 student and faculty members registered to donate blood, 31 of which were eligible to donate. The 31 pints of lifesaving blood collected has the potential to save up to 93 lives.

“Every day someone somewhere needs blood,” said Christine Auletta, Recruitment and Outreach Account Manager, American Red Cross. “Without dedicated coordinators and sponsors like Windsor High School serving as a vital link between the blood supply and those who need blood, the Red Cross could not carry out its lifesaving mission.”

Windsor High School teacher Dan Chrisis has been organizing the Windsor High School blood drive since the early 1990’s. Chrisis is the driving force behind recruiting student volunteers and blood donors for the drive and educating them about the process.

“I enjoyed that Mr. Chrisis was there for support and to answer questions, however it was the students that were running the blood drive,” said Kristen Nelson, American Red Cross Team Leader. “This was a great oppourtunity for the students to exhibit their leadership skills while interacting with their peers, and they showed great maturity.”

The next WHS blood drive is scheduled for April 25, 2018. For more information on the American Red Cross please visit www.redcrossblood.org.
