Windsor Jaycees Cancel Annual Chili Challenge

WINDSOR, CT — A longtime fall tradition will not return to the Windsor Town Green this year.

The Windsor Jaycees announced that the 30th annual Chili Challenge, scheduled for Oct. 10, has been canceled because of declining participation, rising food and supply costs and a drop in volunteer support.

“This decision did not come lightly,” the organization said in a statement. “We have determined we can no longer support our primary mission of providing scholarships while facilitating the Chili Challenge.”

For years, the event brought competitors to the Town Green to serve their recipes to hundreds of people, with proceeds supporting scholarships and other community work.

Organizers said the growing challenges made it impossible to run the event at the standard attendees deserved.

The Jaycees will still participate in the Windsor Lions Club’s Craft Fair on the Town Green on Oct. 10, operating a beer booth and selling food.

“Our commitment to our mission is as alive as our commitment to our community,” the group said.
