Gertrude Elizabeth Cort (Nee Jonas), fondly known as "Gertie," was born on March 23, 1921 to the late Robert and Etheline Jonas. On April 20, 2016, after a long, fulfilling and prosperous life, she heard her Lord and Master's voice and she responded.
Gertrude was born in Guyana, South America in Gibraltar on the Corentyne Coast of Berbice. She was one of seven children: Charles, Rickford, Victorine Jonas, Etheline, Joyce and Victorine Cort. On December 14, 1938, Gertrude married James Alexander Cort. Together they shared many laughs and raised a happy family until his death in 1978. From that union, thirteen children were born: Vernie, Norville, Vilma, James, Clyde, Stanley, Dennies, Ulyne, Wesley, Dennis, Gregory, Beverly, and Yonette.
Gertrude was very industrious and hardworking. Her days in Guyana were spent baking, sewing, farming, and instilling the importance of family, education, and religion. Gertrude's home was always filled with love as she welcomed and nurtured the many family members that graced her doors and lived with her. She served as a mentor and was well respected in the community. She raised her children in a strong Christian household with a great sense of faith and religion as a focal point.

In August of 1985, Gertrude migrated to the United States. She has lived all of the rest of her days surrounded by her family. Together they have experienced the world enjoying many trips and cruises. Gertrude loved to attend church, watch television shows and soap operas. Gertrude could always be seen impeccably dressed adorned with beautiful dresses, hats and purses. As the matriarch of the family, Gertrude (fondly known as "Precious" by her children) has always been a pillar of strength and love. We can celebrate her 95 years of life as she goes on to sing God's praises and watch over us in heaven.
Gertrude leaves to mourn and cherish her loving memory, her children, Vernie, Vilma, James, Clyde, Stanley, Dennies, Ulyne, Wesley, Dennis, Gregory, Beverly, and Yonette; her sons-in-law, Austin, Ashton, Emmett, Lindon and Carlos; her daughters-in-law, Ellen, Yvonne, Sharon, Barbara, Donna, Charlene, Marilyn and Irma; her grandchildren, Adrian, Jillian, Trevlyn, Simonta, Antwana, Andrae, Lynne, Marcia, Gavin, Ashton, Simone, Linden, Michael, Michelle, Eon, Dwayne, Lesleyann, Anton, Anissa, Wilton, Travis, Raedawn, Keane, Delene, Asa, Marissa, Adriel; her great-grandchildren, Jinelle, Matthew and 36 others; her great-great children, Fabian and 5 others; Jonas Family of Boston; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
