Windsor Obituary: Rev. Halsey Stevens III, 78

The Reverend Halsey “Chip” Stevens III, 78, of Bloomfield and formerly of Killingworth, beloved husband of Betsey (Nash) Stevens, and retired Episcopal Priest of the Episcopal Church of Connecticut, died Monday, January 15, 2018.

Born in Hartford, son of the late Halsey and Margaret (Chapin) Stevens, Jr. he was raised in Windsor where he graduated from Windsor High School and worshiped at Grace Episcopal Church. He received his BA from Nasson College, Springvale, ME and his Masters in Divinity from the now Berkley at Yale Divinity School, New Haven.

Reverend Chip was ordained at St. Paul’s Church in Woodbury in 1964 and served churches in Connecticut, Maryland, and Rhode Island until his retirement several years ago. He truly was gifted as a pastoral counselor and enjoyed that part of his ministry. Chip was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed travel and reading and during his younger years hunting with his English Setter, Tico.

Besides his wife Betsey, he leaves two sons John Nathaniel Stevens and his wife Linda of Marietta, GA, and Halsey Theodore Stevens of West Hartford; and a grandson Benjamin Halsey Stevens.

Funeral services for Reverend Stevens will be held Monday, January 22, 2018 at 11am at the Grace Episcopal Church, 311 Broad Street, Windsor. A reception will follow the service. Burial will be in Center Cemetery, Norfolk in the spring.
