Windsor Schools Implement “Buddy Benches” to Encourage Kindness

Donations made by the Rotary Club and the Kiwanis Club to purchase "Buddy Benches"

Windsor Public Schools are working with the community to implement “Buddy Benches” at each elementary school to encourage inclusion and kindness. The “Buddy Bench” is a safe spot for a child to sit to eliminate loneliness and foster friendship on the playground. The “Buddy Bench” helps children cope with the following situations:

  • Need a friend to play with (especially if new to the school)
  • Have an idea for a game but is seeking someone to play with
  • Need a place to cool off (if a child is upset)
  • Need help from a staff member to resolve a conflict
  • If a child is being bullied

Clover Street School held a school assembly on Tuesday October 31, at 2:30 p.m. to recognize and present a certificate of appreciation to the Rotary Club and the Kiwanis Club, for their $1000 donation from each organization to purchase a "Buddy Bench" for all four elementary schools.

All benches are bright yellow with blue posts to be easily identifiable to any child who attends Windsor Public Schools.
