Windsor Students Win The Hartford/JA Entrepreneurship Symposium

Windsor High School Students Place First and Second By Showcasing Their 21st Century Skills

Windsor High School students took first and second place in the 2017 The Hartford/JA Entrepreneurship Symposium.

The 2017 Entrepreneurial Symposium took place on Thursday, December 7th 2017 at The Hartford Insurance. The symposium showcased Windsor High School CTE (Career and Technical Education) students’ 21st century skills. Students demonstrated competencies in analyzing information, business planning, categorizing data, decision making, evaluating alternatives, expressing multiple viewpoints, graphic presentation, oral and written communication, presenting information, reading for understanding, and weighing consequences.

The Hartford employees and volunteers introduced students to the essential elements of a practical business plan and then challenged them to present their plans to a panel of executives.

Windsor High School had two teams place as finalists:

Smart Tech, a company focused on helping students become more engaged in learning by combining a desk and a laptop into an interactive desk. The three students who represented Smart Tech were Saarah Kabal, Maryam Kabal and Myles Tate-Alsgaard.

Uni-Cal, creators of an app that allows busy people, especially students get organized. The two students who represented Uni-Cal were Amya Nesbitt and Amaya Harris.

The finalists had two weeks to improve their ideas, create a financial plan, do industry research and create a professional presentation. Windsor High School students placed first and second in the competition.

1st Place: SmartTech, Inc.
2nd Place: Uni-Cal, Inc.
