BROAD BROOK, CT — A kitchen fire in a third-floor apartment displaced five residents of the Mill Pond apartment complex Sunday night, according to fire officials.

The Broad Brook Fire Department was dispatched to a reported oven fire at the nearby complex off Depot Street at 7:39 p.m., with automatic mutual aid provided by the Warehouse Point Fire Department. The first firefighter to arrive encountered a heavy smoke condition on the third floor, with a moderate smoke condition on the second, Deputy Chief Jim Bancroft said.

Upon further investigation, an active kitchen fire was found in a third-floor apartment, which resulted in mutual aid from South Windsor. The fire was knocked down in about 10 minutes, but crews remained on the scene ventilating the building for about an hour, Bancroft said.
