CHRO To Host 2017 Kids Court Competition At The State Capital Featuring Windsor Locks Students!
Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities to host 2017 Kid's Court Competition that involves Windsor Locks students.
HARTFORD, CT – The Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities will be hosting its annual Kids Court Competition at the State Capitol Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 5:00 pm. The competition caps off a month-long essay contest in which students from around the state submitted essays about civil rights issues in our nation, state, and local communities. This year’s essay topic focused on cyberbullying, religious discrimination, immigration, homelessness and feminism.
At the competition, the students with the top scoring essays will present their essays before a panel of judges. This year’s judges are the Honorable Juliett Crawford, the Honorable Dawne Westbrooke, Assistant U.S. Attorney Vanessa Avery, Representative Jeff Currey, Dr. Darryl Burke, the Honorable Michele Mount and Felice Duffy, Esq.

This year’s high school finalists are Daniel Coppinger from Simsbury High School, Esther Nguyen and Lily Muzzarelli from Windsor Locks High School, and Emily Downey and Priscilla Nascimento from Watertown High School. The middle school finalists are Brigid Hannon from Putnam Middle School, Zainab Hasan and Caitlyn Ouellette from Northeast Middle School, Krithika Santhanam from Irving A. Robbins Middle School and Jamalaldeen Obaid from Windsor Locks Middle School.
