East Windsor Man Allegedly Bilked Business Partner Out of More Than $16K in Goods: Police
He was charged Tuesday in connection with the theft of numerous items, including checks, from an Enfield apartment.

ENFIELD, CT — A Broad Brook man wanted on a warrant was taken into custody by police in Rhode Island and turned over to Enfield authorities Tuesday.
Matthew Weathers, 44, of 59 Mill Pond Rd., was charged with third-degree burglary, second-degree larceny and second-degree forgery. He was held overnight in lieu of $35,000 bond, and was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Enfield Superior Court.
An investigation was begun in April, when a burglary was reported at an apartment on Fox Hill Lane. The man who reported the burglary said the apartment was his brother's, who was out of town on a business trip and was involved in a business venture with Weathers, Deputy Police Chief Gary Collins said.

The complainant told police a number of items were missing from his brother's apartment, including televisions and some checks. When the brother returned in April, he confirmed that numerous items were missing, Collins said.
The complainant did some investigating of his own, checking out a local pawn shop where he found out Weathers had in fact sold some of the missing items. Investigation by Enfield police revealed Weathers had cashed some of the stolen checks, Collins said.

Estimated value of the stolen items and forged checks exceeded $16,400, Collins said.
Weathers was taken into custody by police in Cranston, R.I., and Enfield police obtained extradition authorization and traveled to the Ocean State to pick him up Tuesday morning, Collins said.
