WINDSOR LOCKS, CT — The latest installment of this pictorial history series takes us to one of the longest-running eateries ever in Windsor Locks, the Donut Kettle. Pictured here in its location at 482 Spring Street, the Kettle was one of the most popular breakfast and lunch spots in town for more than half a century.

The Donut Kettle originally opened on Main Street, between Spring and Oak streets, in the late 1940s. It was operated for 39 years by brothers Victor and John Sasali, and is seen below in a shot from Mel Montemerlo's wonderful book on town history.

The Sasali brothers sold the business name to longtime waitress Cheryl Wadsworth, who opened in the small strip plaza on Spring Street and ran it until late 2011. New owners refurbished the site and re-opened as The Gathering Ground in 2012. Here is a more contemporary look at the business.
