Retired Windsor Locks Nurse Sentenced In Drug Case

A retired nurse will serve a prison term for her role in a drug trafficking scheme.

WINDSOR LOCKS, CT - A retired nurse will serve five years in prison for her role in a drug trafficking and money laundering scheme, according to a statement from US Attorney for the District of Connecticut Tom Carson. In May, Christine Miles, 59, of Windsor Locks, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, and to distribute, heroin, oxymorphone, hydrocodone and alprazolam, and one count of engaging and attempting to engage in a monetary transaction affecting interstate commerce, involving criminally derived property of a value greater than $10,000.

According to the statement, Miles began conspiring to possess heroin and other drugs in 1998. In 2016, a joint bust of Miles' North Street home by the federal Drug Enforcement Administration and the North Central Narcotics Task Force resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of various prescription medications, approximately two pounds of marijuana, $10,093 in cash and more than $13,000 in gift cards.

Miles and her husband, Oscar Montoya, were arrested on state charges after the search.

An investigation found the couple had stashed more than $700,000 in various bank accounts.

Montoya pleaded guilty to the same charges last month and was sentenced to three years in prison.
