Trio In Custody After Burglary Spree: Windsor Locks PD

Three suspects were taken into custody in Delaware and they are wanted in connection with an area business burglary spree.

WINDSOR LOCKS, CT — Local police said three suspects wanted in connection with a series of burglaries against area businesses, including Windsor Locks, are in custody in Delaware.

The Windsor Locks Police Department Monday identified the trio as being Nicholas Provencher, 44; Ashley Mercey, 33; and Matthew West, 46.

According to the WLPD, the three suspects will face various burglary charges once transported to Connecticut.

The New Castle County Delaware Sheriff's Office on April 25 took the trio into custody following a police chase into Delaware by Pennsylvania police.

According to the WLPD, the trio crashed a stolen car they were driving while being pursued.

Police said all three are suspects in a recent spree of overnight commercial burglaries in the greater Hartford area, the most recent being in East Windsor and Windsor Locks.

According to police, Windsor Locks detectives attempted to stop the suspects on April 19, spotting them in Hartford driving a stolen vehicle.

That vehicle eluded detectives and was later spotted in Camden, N.J., police said.

The WLPD attributed the suspects' escape with Connecticut's "restrictive pursuit policy," which prompted detectives "to let the suspects get away."

Following their arrests in Delaware, WLPD detectives drove to Delaware April 25 to serve a DNA search warrant on Provencher, the WLPD said.

Police said Provencher has a "lengthy criminal history" in the state, including "numerous arrests and convictions for burglaries and larcenies."

The WLPD said he was released from prison earlier this year.

Police said Mercey and West, meanwhile, have numerous active warrants in the state for failing to appear in court and violation of probation.

All three are being held in New Castle County on charges of being a fugitive from justice from Pennsylvania, with burglary charges in Connecticut pending.
