Windsor Locks Manufacturer Earns Accoldades

Senator Murphy is recognizing a local aerospace manufacturer.

WINDSOR LOCKS, CT - U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) has named local aerospace manufacturer Spectrum Machine & Design this week's “Murphy’s Monday Manufacturer,” according to a statement from Murphy's office. The company specializes in the manufacturing of complex components for aircraft engines, airframe components and defense hardware.

Spectrum Machine & Design was founded in 1999 as a startup in the South Glastonbury garage of Connie and Gary Poesnecker. The company has grown rapidly over a dozen years and now operates out of a 17,000 square foot facility and has 24 employees. The components it manufactures are used by large companies like Pratt & Whitney, General Electric, Rolls Royce, NASA and the U.S. military.

“For nearly 20 years, Spectrum has produced quality products that are used around the world, and has been committed to training the next generation in the manufacturing industry right here in Connecticut. I am proud to highlight them,” said Murphy in a statement.

Gary Poesnecker, Founder of Spectrum Machine & Design, said: “A major component of our success has been in the development of a working culture and environment that attracts and retains high caliber personnel. We empower our employees to possess significant involvement and control of shop floor processes and this in turn adds to their career enrichment and fulfillment. We have a relatively young workforce of very bright and motivated individuals, and we continually seek to add talented individuals of any age, to our group.”

Murphy has introduced two pieces of legislation that aim to strengthen existing standards and prioritize the purchase of American-made goods, the Buy American Act and the American Jobs Act. Connecticut’s 4,600 manufacturers account for 10% of the state’s jobs and 87% of the state’s total exports.
