- On June 6, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., Troopers Tanner, Peshka and Jones were dispatched to the rooftop of the parking garage at Bradley International Airport to assist a female complainant. The woman claimed that her vehicle had been vandalized by her male companion. The three troopers arrived to find that the complainant was alone and that she appeared to lack mental clarity. The troopers established a rapport with the subject by displaying a calm, sympathetic demeanor. This improved the tense situation and allowed them to move within close proximity to her. While explaining the incident, the woman – in an abrupt and unexpected move – ran toward the concrete barrier at the edge of the garage. She then attempted to scale the barrier and throw herself to the ground 50 feet below. Trooper Tanner grabbed the victim around the waist and Trooper Jones grabbed her by the upper torso, while Trooper Peshka forcefully removed the woman’s hands from the retaining wall. The troopers lifted the woman and moved her some distance from the edge. They secured her until EMS personnel arrived and transported her to a local hospital. The troopers each earned the Medal for Lifesaving.
