WINDSOR LOCKS, CT — Standing tall at the Connecticut Fire Academy in Windsor Locks is a granite memorial with names of firefighters from around the state who died in the line of duty.
Since that memorial was built in 2003, some of the names engraved on the granite panels have started to disintegrate. That’s when members of the Connecticut Firefighters Association realized it needed to be refurbished.

Eversource is happy to step in to help.
“Eversource was nice enough to provide a donation that is going to help us kickstart our fundraising for this project,” said Jamie DiPace, Avon Fire Marshal and Emergency Management Director. “This is an important monument to us to remember those who have lost their lives.”

A private group of firemen, fire commissioners, and others have been working on additional fundraising like a chili cookoff, selling engraved bricks for around the memorial, and reaching out to other corporations for donations. It will cost around $130,000 to fix the piece.
“We got involved as soon as we heard about their need,” said Eversource Community Relations Specialist Kevin Witkos. “We work with our public safety partners throughout the state when it comes to emergencies and training—we wanted to give back to the firefighters and this is such a meaningful way to do that.”
