Windsor Locks Obituary: John DeLisa, 89

Condolences to his family and friends.

John DeLisa, 89, of Windsor Locks, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family, on November 11.

Born October 3, 1927 in Sasanno, Italy, John immigrated to the United States in 1947. His passions in life were simple; his wife, children, grandchildren, his garden, the horse stats, Stella Dora cookies, card games and his beloved Yankees (everyone except A-Rod). His heartfelt beliefs of "My door is always open" and "Life is beautiful" was practiced everyday of his life with anyone he met.

Johnny D retired from Finast Supermarkets after 40 years in 1989 after which he continued working at Days Inn, where he retired at the age of 83.

He leaves his loving wife of 67 years, Teresa (Oddo) DeLisa. He is survived by his sisters, Arcangela Tenore of Wethersfield and Rose of Italy and predeceased by his brother Giuseppe DeLuca of Italy. He leaves behind his children Joann Hopkins of Windsor, Michael DeLisa of Windsor Locks, Linda Griskewicz and husband James of Windsor and Joseph DeLisa and wife Phyllis of Manchester and grandchildren Franky Hopkins, Michael DeLisa, John Griskewicz and his fiancée Heather Carolan, Dan Griskewicz, John DeLisa and Amelia Griskewicz, and 4 great-grand children, Jade, Logan, Brooklyn and Vincent. He also leaves his brother-in-laws Salvatore and Marilyn Oddo, Leo and Ann Marie Oddo, and Peter and Mary Jane Oddo, as well as a host of nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Hartford Healthcare at Home's Hospice team for their care and support during this time, as well as to Teresa and John's caregiver Mary, for her compassionate care.

Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family for calling hours on Tuesday November 15, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks. A funeral procession will gather on Wednesday November 16, 2016 at 9:00 am for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 am at St. Mary Church, 42 Spring St., Windsor Locks. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.
