Windsor Locks Police Dog Flushes Out Larceny Suspects, Guns Found

WINDSOR LOCKS, CT — A Windsor Locks police dog apprehended a pair of men with guns in their truck who were trying to steal a piece of construction equipment over the weekend, an incident report indicates.

At 2:43 a.m. Saturday, a WLPD officer was on patrol and observed an idling Ford F-150 pickup truck, parked next to a trailer on Center Street, according to an incident report.

Two men suddenly ran from the truck and additional units from the WLPD and East Windsor department arrived and a search commenced, according to an incident report.

With the men hiding in a dark, wooded area, Windsor Locks police dog Rocko was deployed and immediately flushed out one of the suspects adjacent to 118 Center St., according t an incident report.

The canine team then located the second man hiding in a wooded area north of the original location, police said.

The men were trying to to steal a construction-grade compactor and the plates on the pickup did not belong to it, police said.

Two handguns were located in the truck — a Smith and Wesson .40-caliber pistol and Glock 9 mm pistol, according to an incident report. Police said one registered to one of the men and the other was was stolen out of Florida.

Rolando S. Franklin, 40, of Windsor, was charged with illegal possession of a pistol in a motor vehicle, interfering with police, second-degree larceny. His bond was set at $50,000.

Leroy A. Simpson 46, of Hartford, was charged with illegal possession of a pistol, illegal weapons in a motor vehicle ,interfering with police and second-degree larceny. His bond was set at $100,000 bond.

More charges may be initiated, police said.
