Dr. Conrad P. Ehrlich, medical director at Housatonic Valley Radiological Associates, said, “The goal of our October Breast Health Screening Program is to encourage women to join the millions of others who get annual mammograms in order to detect breast cancer at an early stage. Early detection is proven to be a woman’s best defense against breast cancer and significantly improve chances for survival. According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer ranks second in cancer deaths among women in the U.S. The American Cancer Society recommends annual breast cancer screening starting at age 40. Patients with certain risk factors, such as a family history of breast cancer, may start screenings sooner than age 40. Women are encouraged to discuss their specific risk factors and screening needs with their doctors.
HVRA is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) for mammography, breast ultrasound breast MRI, and breast biopsy, and is FDA approved for mammography. HVRA also provides outpatient breast biopsy procedures, including ultrasound-guided biopsy and stereotactic biopsy, which offer safe and minimally invasive biopsy methods for the patient while producing superior clinical results, without hospital visits, surgery or stitches.
