Chancellors Pride: 5 Unforgettable Athletes From Nonnewaug High School
From local fields to national fame, these stars got their start in Woodbury.

Sports run deep in Woodbury, and Nonnewaug High School has long been at the heart of it. It’s no surprise some standout talent once wore the Chiefs uniform. Today we're celebrating five unforgettable athletes from Chatsworth High School who made a name for themselves well beyond the hometown field.
1. Jess Davis - Olympian Track Athlete
Jess Davis is a standout alumna of Nonnewaug High School, recognized for her excellence in the pentathlon. During her high school career, she dominated multiple track and field events, showcasing remarkable versatility and athleticism. Jess went on to qualify and compete in the 2024 Olympics, representing a pinnacle achievement for a Nonnewaug athlete. (Source: Team USA)
2. Jackie Nicholas - Gatorade Connecticut Cross Country Runner of the Year
Jackie Nicholas excelled in cross country and track at Nonnewaug High School, earning recognition as the Gatorade Connecticut Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year. She qualified for Foot Locker Nationals, representing her school and state at the national level. Jackie continued her running career at Princeton University, where she set new career bests and earned honors such as Second-Team All-Ivy and USTFCCA All-Region in cross country. 3. Jack Wendel - Current Collegiate Wrestler
Jack Wendel is one of Nonnewaug High School’s most accomplished wrestlers. A two-time All-State wrestler, he was named Class S Most Outstanding Wrestler, cementing his status as one of the state’s elite prep athletes. Jack continued his wrestling career in college at York College and is currently a member of the university’s team. (Source: YCPS Spartans)
4. Brett Davino - Collegiate Baseball Player
Brett Davino excelled as a baseball player at Nonnewaug High School, leading his team to the Class M State Championship and capturing the first-ever state title. In his four years of varsity baseball, Davino was a team captain and All-State and All-Conference selection. Davino continues his career collegiately after one year at UConn, now a member of the Stony Brook Seawolves, instantly contributing as a redshirt freshman, making 18 starts. 5. Samantha Conti - Current Collegiate Basketball Player
Samantha Conti was a multi-sport star at Nonnewaug High School, showcasing her talents in basketball, soccer and tennis. Her ability shined in both basketball and soccer, being named First-Team and Second-Team All-Stars in basketball and was a three-time First-Team All-Star, as well as All-State in soccer, while collecting several State Championships in all three sports. Her talents earned her scholarship to Curry College, where she continues her basketball career. (Source: Curry Athletics)
