Chick-fil-A Files to Open First CT Location

An application was filed Tuesday, March 12, with the Brookfield Land Use Department to open Connecticut’s first Chick-fil-A restaurant, proposed for 140 Federal Road, the former site of Burger King.

The initial application filed Tuesday proposes a 7,225 square-foot building to include a drive-thru window and lane.

If approved and built, the fast-food chicken restaurant would be the first of the chain in Connecticut and only the fourth in New England, with two locations in Massachusetts and one in New Hampshire.

Chick-fil-A made headlines last summer when its CEO Dan Cathy spoke about the company’s support of the “biblical definition of a family unit,” including contributions to anti-gay organizations totaling almost $2 million through their WinShape Foundation in 2010. The remarks sparked both protests and shows of support for the chain and its CEO, the son of the restaurant’s founder.

Despite some adverse media attention, Chick-fil-A was named the No. 1 chicken chain in the U.S. in a market study in November 2012.

Representatives from Chick-fil-A did not immediately return calls for comment.
