Companions & Homemakers Preserves Independence While Aging
Supports Nonprofit Organizations that Help Quality of Life in Connecticut

Since its founding nearly three decades ago, the mission of Companions & Homemakers, to preserve dignity through independence at home, has been heartily embraced by people and institutions throughout the state. Recognizing the broad support that has made a difference in thousands of lives and for their families, Companions & Homemakers has consistently acted on the belief that it’s important to give back.
According to an AARP study, 90 percent of people age 65 and over would prefer to stay in their own homes as they get older — and not go to a nursing home or assisted living facility. Aging in place is defined by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as "the ability to live in one's own home and community safely, independently and comfortably, regardless of age, income or ability level."
Companions & Homemakers is Connecticut’s most trusted home care agency, having earned that reputation by providing quality in-home care to thousands of satisfied clients in communities all across the state since 1990.

Through the years, Companions & Homemakers has actively supported the organizations whose activities directly benefit their clients and caregivers. Each year at the holidays, for example, the entire office staff gets to participate in choosing how a substantial financial donation is divided among a number of worthy organizations. That process is to begin shortly for the 2018 holiday season.
“We are grateful to have the opportunity to support amazing organizations doing phenomenal work. Community involvement has always been a priority for our business,” said Linda Grigerek, founder and president of Companions & Homemakers. “We look forward to continuing that tradition. We are extremely proud of the dedication of our caregivers and our entire staff. Their efforts speaks volumes about their character and commitment. ”

A year ago, contributions totaling $50,000 were made to Meals on Wheels, Gaylord Hospital, the Wounded Warrior Project, the American Cancer Society, Lucky Pup Rescue, the American Red Cross, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and the American Parkinson’s Disease Association.
Companions & Homemakers has also supported the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s, which raises money and awareness for Alzheimer’s research, for many years. This year’s total donation to the Alzheimer’s Association was $10,010, including a company match of $5,005. Employee teams were fielded to participate in Walks that took place in Enfield, New London, Norwalk, Litchfield, Danbury, New Haven and Hartford, during September and October. Companions & Homemakers once again donated some of its paid advertising time on local radio stations to promote participation and raise public awareness about the Walks.
