Dead Black Bear Found in Roxbury Was Shot, Likely Dumped: Conservation Police

The bear was found on May 18 on Roxbury Land Trust property.

ROXBURY, CT - The dead black bear found May 18 on Roxbury Land Trust property was shot and likely dumped at the site, according to state Environmental Conservation Police.

The animal was found at about 8 a.m. near Upper County Road in Roxbury, and the cause of death was determined during a necropsy last week. On Tuesday, authorities reiterated their plea for help in finding whoever fatally shot it.

"The State EnCon Police are now requesting the public assistance to help identify the person(s) responsible for the killing of the adult male black bear," officials wrote on the department's Facebook page. "Anyone with information please contact the State EnCon Police Emergency Dispatch Center at (860) 424-3333 or toll free at 1-800-842-4357. All calls will be kept confidential."
