Fight over Planned Power Plant Near Middlebury Goes to State Supreme Court
Construction has already begun on the 785-megawatt facility in adjacent Oxford.

OXFORD, CT — Opponents of the planned 785-megawatt power plant in Oxford took their fight to the state Supreme Court in an effort to overturn approvals for the facility, reports the Waterbury Republican-American.
Competitive Power Ventures and GE Energy Financial Services have already begun building the CPV Towantic Energy plant near the Middlebury border, which is expected to cost close to $1 billion.
The residents and others who oppose the project, including the Town of Middlebury and Quassy Amusement Park, believe neighborhood concerns were not fully addressed by state approvals for the facility.
