Katherine Berman Was Drunk, Speeding At Time Of Deadly Crash: PD

The Hartford Courant reported new findings from the State Police investigation into the deadly crash.

WOODBURY, CT — Katherine Berman had a "blood-alcohol level three times the legal limit" when her car crashed into another vehicle leaving both her and Edward Bertulius, 87, dead, the Hartford Courant's Dave Altimari reported late Thursday.

The Hartford Courant adds that at the time of the 2017 crash that Katherine Berman, whose husband is ESPN legendary broadcaster Chris Berman, was speeding and didn't hit her brakes before she crashed into Bertulius' vehicle.

Patch reported earlier this week that Woodbury restaurant Marketplace Kitchen and Bar and its owner are being sued by Bertulius' family. The lawsuit alleges that the restaurant served Katherine Berman past the point of intoxication and is liable for his death.

The double fatal crash occurred on Route 63 in May 2017. The lawsuit contends that Katherine Berman was served alcoholic beverages while she was intoxicated in violation of state regulations, the lawsuit alleges. Bertulis' estate seeks more than $2,500 in damages from Marketplace Kitchen and Bar and owner Elias Hawli.
