Man Busted With 4 Kilos Of Cocaine Following Traffic Stop: State Police

The arrest occurred Monday evening eastbound on I-84 near exit 25A, according to Connecticut State Police.

WATERBURY, CT — A 43-year-old Mount Joy, Pennsylvania, man was arrested on narcotics charges Monday evening after state police pulled him over on I-84 for not wearing a seatbelt and found four kilograms of cocaine in his vehicle.

Luis P. Ortiz was pulled over eastbound on I-84 near exit 25A at about 6:45 p.m. A trooper saw he was driving without a seat belt, in addition to swerving onto the side of the road.

According to state police, Ortiz agreed to a search of his vehicle, and troopers found the cocaine in a bag in the back seat.

Ortiz was charged with:

  • Possession of narcotics
  • Illegal sale of drugs by a non-drug dependent person
  • Failure to wear a seatbelt
  • Failure to drive in a proper lane
  • Operating a motor vehicle without a valid license

He was held in lieu of a $250,000 bond and was scheduled to be arraigned in Waterbury Superior Court on today, Feb. 14.
