Man Charged With Middlebury Armed Robberies: Court Officials

Court officials said a Waterbury man has been charged with committing two armed robberies in Middlebury last month.

MIDDLEBURY, CT — Court officials said a Waterbury man has been charged with committing two armed robberies in Middlebury last month. The suspect has been detained since his arrest on state charges on Dec. 9, officials said.

The suspect, 32-year-old Zachary Provost, is charged with robbing the Mobil gas station located at 750 Straits Turnpike in Middlebury, as well as the Dunkin’ Donuts located inside the Mobil gas station, according to a release.

Court officials said the suspect first robbed the Mobil by pointing what appeared to be firearm at the cashier and demanding the contents of the register. The suspect allegedly took approximately $578 in cash from the register, as well as $131 worth of cigarettes, officials said.

The suspect then allegedly walked to the Dunkin’ Donuts counter, displayed a handgun to the cashier and took approximately $350 in cash from the register, officials said.

Police said officers were able to use surveillance images to identify Provost, who is also a suspect in multiple bank robberies, according to court officials.

The suspect was arrested Dec. 9 after officers responded to a call of an overdose of a woman at a motel in Waterbury, officials said. Officers were able to revive the overdose victim, who had been staying in the same room as the suspect.
