New Morning October Classes

There is something for everyone this month from learning about GMO and making jewelry to a fall festival!

New Morning Market is a leading natural and organic, independent retailer for healthy sustainable living. Owner John Pittari and his staff continually create an environment that fosters meaningful exchanges of knowledge, services and products. New Morning has been in business for 45 years and has been in their 4th and final location at 129 Main Street North in Woodbury since 2012. Below is a list of classes, workshops and lectures taking place there for the month of October.

GMO OMG is a feature-length journey led by father and filmmaker Jeremy Seifert to determine what impact genetically modified organisms (GMOs) have on human health, the environment, and consumer choice. Rock Wrappin’ (Jewelry Making Class) Friday, October 13 and 20, 6pm – 7:30 pm Christine Jewell

Learn simple techniques for making unique pieces of original jewelry. Wire-wrapping stones requires nothing technical, just a few supplies and your own imagination! . Discussions on the properties of various stones and their care will also be shared. You will leave with a new set of skills to create your own pendants or special gifts. Bring your own favorite stone (it should be as flat as possible) or select from the class supplies. Supplies are provided, but please bring round and needle-nose pliers, if you have them. Permaculture and Regenerative Living for All of Us Saturday October 21st 3:30-5:00 Raye Hodgson

Is the word Permaculture familiar to you? What about regenerative living? Understanding the basics and incorporating the practices into your life will be good for you, your family and your neighbors. It can pay dividends, both financially and in quality of life. Raye Hodgson is offering this free presentation on the basics of Permaculture and regenerative living. Bring questions you may have on getting started (or taking the next steps) in your own life.Please bring a notepad and pen or pencil, or a drawing tablet and crayons…whatever tools you may find helpful for taking notes, jotting down your own ideas, sketching the beginnings of your own project! There will be time for some brainstorming and sharing from your lives as well. Tickets: Free, but please RSVP so that we can plan accordingly, and contact you in case of unanticipated changes.

Spotty Dog Bottle Drive Saturday October 21st-Sunday October 22nd

Save up your returnable bottles and cans! Spotty Dog Rescue will be here at New Morning raising awareness and excepting donations to help sweet pups in need. Spotty Dog Rescue is a local small foster-based organization that rescues dogs from local shelters, the Virgin Islands, Grand Cayman and other Islands where the euthanasia rate is 80% and there are few if any rescue groups. Stop in and meet some adorable dogs that will be available for adoption.

Release the Heat with Ayurveda & Yoga Sunday October 22nd 2:00-4:00 Sondra Martinez Ayurvedic Health Counselor & Nutritionist Ann DiLorenzo Certified Yoga Teacher, RYT, BS, MS in Health Education

This workshop will allow individuals to release the heat from the summer months as we transition into winter. By releasing built up summer heat in the fall, through seasonal eating and lifestyle modification, our bodies prepare to sustain throughout the winter months without adverse side effects caused by excess heat in the body such as fatigue, aches, dry skin, irritations, etc. Tickets $30.00

Guided Meditation and Sound Healing October 25th 6:30-7:30pm Morgan Leever, MEd

Meditation can be a great stress reliever, can help boost the immune system and can help you sleep better, so why not give it a try? During this class you will be guided through a progressive relaxation and then take a journey to release pain and fear. Great for both beginners or for the more experienced. We will conclude this class with 15 minutes of further relaxation with the sounds of the Tibetan singing bowls and gong. Tickets: $15.00

TRU ELEMENTS ESSENCE MEDITATION Friday October 27th 7:00-8:30 JOHN ODLUM

Join John and intuitive Sachin Hazen for an evening synthesizing pure medicinal essential oils, music, and a deep guided meditation. John will answer any questions you may have regarding aromatherapy to help deepen your experience. Several essences will be applied during the evening. There will be time for sharing and discussion. Please keep in mind that you will be lying on your back during the meditation. Bring blankets, pillows and anything else you might need to make it as comfortable an experience as possible. It is always beautiful and transforming. This event, in a circle format, is part of holistic psychotherapist Sachin Hazen’s Living as Gods series. Tickets $20.00

Singer Songwriter Series Saturday October 28th 7:00 p.m.

Come join us for another incredible evening of music with 4 local singer songwriters performing original music upstairs in the handicapped accessible Community Room. Doors open at 7 pm. Fall Celebration Day Sunday October 29th 3-6

Join us for an afternoon of fun for the whole family. We will have an afternoon of fall themed events starting with a children’s fall themed story time at 3:30 and face painting until 4. The community room will be set with supplies to decorate an amazing fall pumpkin which will be displayed later that evening. There will also be live music and sampling. Halloween costumes encouraged.
