
Here's a look around the region at what's happening in school news:
- Region 15 Superintendent Dr. Frank Sippy announced the six fall recipients of the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents and the Litchfield County Superintendent's Association (CAPSS/LCSA) Superintendent Student Award at a recent Region 15 Board of Education meeting. The students were selected by their teachers based on leadership, citizenship, academics, community service, and participation in extra-curricular activities. Memorial Middle School's Sydney Malaspina and Robert Bickley were selected along with Rochambeau Middle School's Michael Foschi and Maddie Tavino. Alex Cieply and Rebecca House represented . At the Nov. 22 meeting when they were selected, Sippy said, "I have had the privilege of meeting and getting to know all of these students and they are all a great representation of their school and their region."
- Pomperaug High School put on Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream Nov. 19-21. The production took place in the Black Box Theater and was staged arena-style with just over 80 seats per show.
- A bomb scare caused Region 14 students to evacuate . A threatening note was found on Tuesday November 23 in the school, and school officials decided to remove students from the building.
- The matter of reconfiguration and redistribution in Region 14 schools is planned to be addressed in detail at December Board of Education meetings. An early November meeting of the Board of Education was cancelled and rescheduled.
- A hot topic in the region remains what the alignment will be in the local elementary schools. There has been a large argument as to what grades should be located within the elementary school and which should attend the middle school.
