The Old Woodbury Historical Society, Town of Woodbury History Walk-book for sale

Town of Woodbury History Walk-Book for sale. Explore 50 historic places on Main Street-Follow us to History

The Old Woodbury Historical Society invites the public to stroll down Main Street with a book, Town of Woodbury History Walk by Elizabeth Computzzi and William Monti to the to learn more about the old houses that gracefully line the sidewalk. The book captures unique details of 50 historic places and can be purchased at Canfield Corner Pharmacy, Woodbury Library or Woodbury Pewter Shop for $10 each. Participants can read about each location as they follow the trail map with markers on the ground easily located by a white W painted on the sidewalk. Each location coincides with a chapter in the book to learn more about the lives of people and events that shaped Woodbury’s past! History Walk marker #1 (North Congregational Church) starts at the corner of Main Street North and Washington Road (route 47), and proceeds for two miles on Main Street South. Town of Woodbury History Walk sales all go to the Woodbury Scholarship Fund. The book is filled with rich historic details, humor and entertaining stories of churches built, past businesses that rise and fall and unique homes that stand as memorials of the challenges of early pioneers. As you explore the walk you will discover the burial place of Native American Chief Pomperaug, a trolley route that replaced stagecoaches, learn spooky stories of the witch of Good Hill and so much more. You will connect to the people who built homes, raised families and overcame obstacles as time passed in Woodbury. Everyone is encouraged to enjoy the warm weather, get outside and take the History Walk to discover our amazing America story!

The OWHS preserves information on Old Woodbury, owns and maintains the Hurd House Museum and Barn on 25 Hollow Road, the District #2 Old Schoolhouse on Main Street South and the Old Town Hall Archives Building on the Main Street.
