At first, the Senior Community Center room where voting takes place was empty around 1:25 p.m.
Bethlehem and Woodbury voters are voting for Region 14 Board of Education candidates today. Polls close at 8 p.m.
But as the rain lessened and then stopped, people started trickling in.
Turnout as of noon was 6 percent, according to poll worker Jane Sandulli. Out of 6,710 voters, 481 in Woodbury voted, she said.
Is she surprised by the turnout?
"Well considering the weather," she said at first, then paused before saying: "I was hoping it would be much larger."
No sooner had she said that, then four people came and voted in quick succession.
Sandulli said she anticipates more people coming to vote when school lets out.
