Region 15 Students Participated in School Walk for Diabetes

$8,000 was raised for the American Diabetes Association

Rochambeau Middle School’s fifth annual School Walk/Basketball tournament for Diabetes was a huge success. The students and teachers worked together to raise funds to support the important research, information and advocacy efforts of the American Diabetes Association (ADA). Together they raised $8,000, and the students also learned lessons about the seriousness of diabetes and how eating healthy and exercising can help prevent the disease.

More than 200 students participated in the event and the number grows significantly each year. “I am always excited about coordinating the School Walk for Diabetes,” said Geri Ristow (Physical Education Teacher). “It is a chance for us to make a difference in our community and at the same time raise money for an important cause.” Jeff Craig (Physical Education Teacher) said, "this was my first year working on the event and I was very impressed with our students' enthusiasm. We could not have done this without them or the support from their friends and family members who helped by donating and volunteering their time to assist with the event.”

Michael K. ($600) was the top fundraiser for the second straight year. He will be given a recognition award from the ADA for his fundraising efforts. Aba S., Andrew B., Delaney Y., Jessica H. and Samantha K. also made significant contributions to the cause.
