Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for Woodbury

Sunny skies are forecasted to change quickly Wednesday afternoon, leading to stormy weather in Litchfield County and Fairfield County.

The National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Litchfield County and Fairfield County until 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 27.

“The main threat from these thunderstorms will be the localized damaging wind gusts in excess of 58 mph. Locally heavy downpours could result in ponding of water in low lying, poor drainage areas,” the NWS noted.

Wednesday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 5 p.m. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds and heavy rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 83. South wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 3 a.m., then a slight chance of showers after 5 a.m. Some of the storms could be severe. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 64. South wind 5 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 82. Southwest wind 6 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 58. North wind around 6 mph becoming west after midnight.
