Watermark Resident Honored with “60 Over 60” Award

Long-time Connecticut resident receives new award

The Watermark at East Hill is excited to announce that one of their residents has been featured as a winner of Connecticut’s first-ever “60 Over 60”awards.

Duncaster, a boutique continuing care retirement community located in Bloomfield, created the award to showcase Connecticut residents over the age of 60 who continue to inspire and make impacts on their friends, families, and communities. The Watermark at East Hill’s Dining Services Director, Jim Bain nominated resident Lila Howard, whom he described as a woman ahead of her time.

A native of Floral Park, New York, Howard became an oral hygienist after marrying a dentist, Richard. Inspired to always try new things, Howard held numerous unique jobs, from flight school director to the first female Chairman of the Long Island MG Sports Car Club.

“After finding someone to fill the hygienist position and replace me, I just thought there may be other jobs that I might like to try,” said Howard.

Since relocating to Connecticut with her husband in 1986, Howard has continued to embark on new ventures and volunteer efforts. After moving to The Watermark at East Hill in 2001, Howard immediately became involved within the community and served as the Resident Council President for three terms. She is currently The Watermark’s in-house photographer, capturing photos at events and celebrations and creating displays for her fellow residents to enjoy.

“Just because you reach a certain age, doesn’t mean that you can’t still contribute to your community,” said Howard. “I was honored to be nominated by Jim and The Watermark community, and am even more excited to receive the ’60 Over 60 Award.’”

“Lila’s energy and perseverance to try new things and give back to those around her makes her a valued member of our community,” said Connie Haworth, Executive Director of The Watermark at East Hill. “We are so proud to honor Lila’s continued commitment to helping others and congratulate her on this nomination.”
