I am writing to express my intention to run as a candidate representing Woodbury in the upcoming Board of Education election. If elected, I intend to serve my community by supporting children and their needs and reinforcing educational excellence in any way I can.
I was born and raised in Jerusalem, Israel, served in the Israeli military and graduated with high honors from Hebrew University in Jerusalem with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Communications. I relocated to the United States to work at a NYC-based Israeli bank.

I always possessed a passion for education as a means of improving people’s lives and this, paired with my love for children, led me to change my career and pursue a Master’s degree in Education. I hold dual teaching certifications in childhood education and in special education both in New York State and in Connecticut, and over the past 15 years have taught a range of students, from a variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, both in public and private schools.
Since 2018 I am employed with the Newtown Public Schools and currently teach 7th and 8th-grade students at the Newtown Middle School, working directly with students impacted by the 2012 Sandy Hook tragedy. Additionally I am involved in local organizations which serve the student population, such as the local Brownies troop, Temple B’nai Israel in Southbury where I teach the 7th grade and the MES PTO where I serve as vice president.
As a Region 14 parent with children in the elementary level and as a special educator, I am aware of the ever-evolving needs of the student population, especially during a time when learning may continue to take place outside the schools. Both the happiness and well-being of our children, and of our community as a whole, are of utmost importance to me. Additionally, my background in finance may prove helpful when considering matters such as the budget, financial goal-setting and the annual audit.
I would be honored to serve the community and our children as a member of the Board of Education and look forward to bringing my energy, enthusiasm and love of learning to the table.
With gratitude and respect,
Tikva Rose
