The Vero at Newark Honors National POW/MIA Recognition Day with Special Dedication Ceremony

(October, 7 2025) Newark, DE - In a deeply moving tribute on National POW/MIA Recognition Day, The Vero at Newark, A Juniper Community, hosted a meaningful dedication ceremony honoring the service, sacrifice, and memory of America’s Prisoners of War and those Missing in Action.

Residents, veterans, staff, and members of the local community gathered for the event, which featured a full ceremonial program that paid homage to the heroes who never returned home. The ceremony began with the Presentation of Colors by John Williams, a retired U.S. Army veteran of 24 years, and Zackary Broomall, a 2016 graduate of Middletown High School and member of the school's ROTC program.

The National Anthem was performed by Dave Herscher, followed by an invocation led by Bobby Baldwin, a retired United States Marine Corps veteran who served in Vietnam from 1966 to 1969.

A highlight of the ceremony was the unveiling of a dedicated POW/MIA chair, led by Bill Conley and The Vero Veterans. This chair now stands as a permanent symbol within The Vero, a silent tribute to the brave men and women who are still unaccounted for.

Colonel Scott Christensen, Commander of American Legion Post 10 and Vice Commander of the Delaware American Legion, delivered the keynote address, sharing powerful words that underscored the importance of remembrance and recognition.

The program also included a Missing Man Table Presentation, performed by Bobby Baldwin and Rosely Robinson, Director of A Hero’s Welcome Delaware, a poignant visual representation honoring fallen, missing, and imprisoned military service members.

The ceremony concluded with a performance of “Taps” by Keith Walker, of the VFW Post 475 Honor Guard.
