Mayor Mike Purzycki and the City’s emergency management team today issued updated information to further assist residents and businesses affected by Hurricane Ida. This information is being issued in partnership with the Governor’s Office, the Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA), and the Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS).

Reception Center for Hurricane Victims on Tuesday, September 7
The Governor’s Office, DHSS, DEMA, City of Wilmington, and other community partners will be hosting a Disaster Reception Center for Hurricane Ida Flooding tomorrow, Tuesday, September 7, 2021, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at The Warehouse, 1121 Thatcher Street. Representatives will be on site from agencies that can gather information and provide recovery resources for those impacted by the recent flooding event. If possible, residents should bring:
- a valid government issued form of identification
- proof of residency
- insurance documents
- proof of income
If you need transportation to the Disaster Reception Center, the City of Wilmington’s Parks Department will be running buses on the half hour to and from the Warehouse. Buses will travel along Heald and Claymont streets, stopping at corners on 13th and 15th streets beginning at 8:30 a.m. with the last bus leaving The Warehouse at 4:30 p.m. Be advised that masks are required to ride the bus. Crisis Clean Hotline
The City of Wilmington has launched a toll-free Crisis Clean Hotline number – 844-965-1386 – that will serve as a clearinghouse for all the muck out, tear out, and water removal needs of those affected by the storm.
Lunch and dinner available
Beginning today and continuing as needed, boxed lunches and hot dinners will be provided to affected City of Wilmington courtesy of the Delaware Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster (DEVOAD), the Salvation Army, and the American Red Cross. Meals will be supplied directly to affected sections of the City by a mobile Salvation Army truck two times each day, in the morning and evening.
Housing and other assistance available
The Division of Social Services (DSS), Delaware Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster (DEVOAD), Delmarva Power, and the City of Wilmington continue to canvass neighborhoods to inform residents about processes for re-electrification, reactivation of gas service, debris pick up, food delivery, and emergency housing. If your housing is unsafe, contact the Social Services Call Center: 302-571-4900. Deaf or Hearing-Impaired individuals can call 7-1-1 and give the Customer Service Call Center number.
Delaware residents displaced by Hurricane Ida may also search for available housing and disaster recovery related resources using www.DelawareHousingSearch.org, or call toll-free 1-877-428-8844. Residents should continue to call 9-1-1 in an emergency.
