Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki today urged residents in the City and throughout the state to complete the U.S. census today because it’s the last day to do so. At the urging of the Trump Administration, the U.S. Supreme Court this week reversed an end-of-the-month extension of the census that had been granted by a district court judge.

The Mayor said residents can complete the census by calling 844.330.2020, or online by visiting my2020census.gov. The current census application completion rate in Delaware is 64.7%, which is just below the national average and far short of Delaware’s goal of an 80% response rate.

“The data gathered through the census helps create jobs, provide housing, prepare for emergencies, build roads, schools, and hospitals, and is used to determine how many seats the state of Delaware will have in Congress,” said Mayor Purzycki. “Everyone must be counted, so please complete the Census today before time runs out.” Every 10 years, information from the U.S. Census determines the distribution of over $3 billion dollars in federal funding to states and local communities across the country. These funds are distributed based on the number of residents that respond to the Census.
