Wilmington Mayor Invites Citizens To Attend Annual AFL-CIO Parade Downtown

Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki invited citizens to attend the Annual Wilmington Labor Day Parade on Monday, Sept. 2, at 10 a.m.

From the City of Wilmington: Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki invited citizens to attend the Annual Wilmington Labor Day Parade on Monday, Sept. 2, which steps off from 4th and King Streets at 10 a.m. The mayor will join Delaware State AFL-CIO President James Maravelias, Executive Director Gerald Brady, State Senator John “Jack” Walsh, State Representative Edward Oszeinski and a host of elected officials, local dignitaries and union members to honor the achievements of Delaware’s working men and women.

The parade will proceed north along King Street to Rodney Square at 1000 North King Street where union members and their families will gather to commemorate the day. Organizers expect more than 2,000 members representing over 30 individual affiliates from within the Delaware AFL-CIO to march in this year’s parade. In addition, ten non-affiliated units representing constituency groups allied with the state federation will also participate.

Since Wilmington city government offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 2, for the Labor Day holiday, the department of public works’ sanitation division will collect recyclables on a modified holiday schedule:

  • Monday, Sept. 2: Holiday/No recycling collection
  • Tuesday, Sept. 3: East of I-95 recycling collection
  • Wednesday, Sept. 4: West of I-95 recycling collection

Trash collection will continue as regularly scheduled on Thursday, Sept. 5, for areas east of I-95 and on Friday, Sept. 6, for areas west of I-95.
