In addition to offering children and families the opportunity to interact with Wilmington’s first responders and view police, fire and other emergency vehicles and equipment, the event will feature FREE food and refreshments from Grotto Pizza at 1819 Pennsylvania Avenue and Bernie’s Original Water Ice at 1701 West 8thStreet. There will also be plenty of public safety-related giveaways for children and adults alike on Tuesday. In addition, parents will be able to obtain free identification cards for their children.
National Night Out attendees will have the chance to meet and interact with police officers from various Wilmington Police Department (WPD) divisions and units, including the Crisis Management Tactical Team, Traffic Unit, Marine Unit, Mobile Command Post/Hostage Negotiation Team, Human Resources/Recruitment, Victim Services Unit, Youth Response Unit and the Uniformed Services (Patrol) Division. Officers from the WPD Canine Unit will also be on hand to conduct demonstrations and enable attendees to meet and interact with some of the dogs in the unit.
The WPD will be joined by other law enforcement and public safety partners, including the Wilmington Fire Department, the Wilmington Office of Emergency Management, the United States Attorney’s Office, Probation and Parole, Delmarva Power, Christina Care, and many others.
“National Night Out is a great chance for our residents – young and old – to come out and meet some of the men and women who help keep their community safe,” said Chief Tracy. “We hope you will join us to meet some of our officers, learn about what they do, and enjoy some food and fun.”
