2 Dead After Car Plunges Into Potomac River Off Rock Creek Parkway

A third person was reportedly rushed to the hospital after the crash.

Two people have died after a speeding car plunged into the Potomac River off of Rock Creek Parkway late Saturday night, according to reports.

D.C. Fire and EMS scrambled to respond to a report of a car in the Potomac near the Roosevelt Bridge, but were unable to locate the car until about two hours later, the D.C. Fire and EMS twitter account tweeted. One occupant manged to escape but two others were trapped inside the car.

Divers immediately began searching for the vehicle but had difficulty locating it in the darkness, with D.C. Fire and EMS finally reporting that they had found the car just after 1 a.m. and confirming that two occupants were still in the car.

WTOP reported that the crash happened at around 11 p.m. along Rock Creek Parkway after the driver lost control of the vehicle while speeding.
