311 Makes Online Request Process Easier, More Transparent

Want to check if your service request for a broken parking meter near the Georgetown library went through? Just look at the map.

D.C.'s 311 system has a new online mapping function that lets users see recent service requests nearby through a Google Map function. Later this week, the Service Request Center site http://311.dc.gov/ will take another step towards transparency and increased user-friendliness.

Users will be able to see full service requests descriptions for all online services and use a step-by-step guide for the service request process.

The site will also include a timetable for service request delivery so residents have a realistic expectation of when a problem will be resolved.

The map function allows you to enter an exact address or to search by a range of criteria such as ANC, Police District, Ward, etc.

Users can also search for a variety of 311 data including crime incidents, service requests, public space permits and building permits. Both crime and service request queries can be focused on particular types such as stolen autos or bulk trash removal.
