GEORGETOWN, DC — Whether you're craving authentic Mexican food or raw cookie dough from a jar (haven't we all?), there's no shortage of great restaurants and cafes in Georgetown.
A bunch of establishments opened their doors in recent months, according to Georgetown Business Improvement District. You can find some of them below. Who knows? Maybe you'll find a new favorite.
Compass Coffee
Georgetown's newest coffee addition recently opened its doors in an old theater building on Wisconsin Avenue. Compass Coffee is all about making really good, simple coffee. Items on the menu include Horizon — a tangy African light roast with a berry-like sweetness, Cardinal — a smooth and mellow blend boasting caramel flavor, and Shaw — a juicy, intense blend with flavors like cocoa and dark fruit.

Cafe Georgetown
Cafe Georgetown was founded by Emel Bayrak, a former Turkish journalist and White House employee. Before opening up shop, Bayrak had trouble finding a nice, cozy place to read the news or work on an assignment. There were coffee shops in the area, of course. But they usually got crowded. That's when Bayrak decided to open Cafe Georgetown, a modern — yet cozy — coffee shop and wine bar located at 3141 N St. NW.
Dough Jar
Located at 1332 Wisconsin Ave. NW, Dough Jar is the District's first raw cookie dough shop. The menu offers more than 10 flavors of jarred cookie dough.
Don't worry: it's safe to eat. The small-batch edible cookie dough contains heat-treated flour and no eggs. There are also no added preservatives, and the ingredients are all natural (except for a few candy toppings).
Say Cheese!
Cheese lovers rejoice: there's now a grilled cheese-focused eatery in the heart of Georgetown. Gourmet options include loaded potato grilled cheese and Gouda Crunch. Say Cheese! is located at 1132 29th Street NW.
High Street Cafe
High Street Cafe is a brasserie that offers many American classics, but with a Hispanic twist. Dishes include huevos rancheros, pan seared salmon, lechon (roasted pork with spicy tomato sauce), fruit salad, and banana foster french toast.
Chef-owner Iguina says: "We want it to be a place where everyone knows your name and the food is accessible. It's not high end. It's not a dive. It's right in between." Georgetown needs a place like that."
High Street Cafe is located at 1303 Wisconsin Ave. NW.
