GEORGETOWN, DC — The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) will be conducting an air defense exercise over the Washington, D.C. area early Tuesday morning.

NORAD says the drill will take place between 12:30 and 2:30 a.m.

"NORAD routinely conducts exercises with a variety of scenarios, including airspace restriction violations and responses to unknown aircraft," the organization said. "Some portions of the exercise may be visible from the ground. NORAD exercises are carefully planned and closely controlled."
