Alleged Abductor Who Tried to Snatch Toddler Named by DC Metro Police

Woman, 48, tried to snatch toddler Wednesday from stroller on Metro, according to Metro police.

Metro Police on Thursday identified the woman who they say tried to abduct a toddler from a stroller on the Metro’s Orange Line as Monique McKnight, 48, according to a Metro spokesman.

The woman is under arrest and charged with attempted abduction.

Police arrested the woman on an Orange Line Metro train Wednesday after she tried to steal a 2-year-old girl out of a stroller and was subsequently tackled by another passenger, according to Metro police.

The train was approaching Foggy Bottom, when the woman tried to grab the toddler from her stroller, Metro police spokeswoman Morgan Dye told Patch. Police got the call about the incident Wednesday at 9:34 a.m.

A concerted effort among passengers was made to stop the abduction. One male passenger apprehended the woman until police arrived, Dye said. WJLA reported that the woman was tackled.

The woman was arrested and charged with attempted abduction, a Metro police spokesman said later Wednesday; she was in Metro transit custody Wednesday afternoon and was not cooperating with Metro police, the spokesman said.
