Kilpatrick Townsend Adds Prominent Intellectual Property Attorney in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON, DC (July 11) – Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton announced today the addition of attorney Thomas S. Auchterlonie to its internationally-recognized Intellectual Property Department. Mr. Auchterlonie joins Kilpatrick Townsend’s growing Washington, D.C. office as Counsel. He will be a member of the firm’s Electrical Engineering/Software Team.

Mr. Auchterlonie focuses his practice on preparing and prosecuting patent applications, and has handled a large variety of technologies including software; network (e.g., packetized) & communication protocols; storage-area networks (SANs); network-access control at the operating-system-level (Windows I/O model, WDM); OSs (MS Windows, Linux (Ubuntu), Android) integrated circuits (ICs) and their corresponding semiconductor manufacturing processes, LCDs and their manufacturing processes; photocopiers (xerography, paper transport & print-job mgmt); x-ray filters; digital cameras and related image processing, among others. He has lectured in the U.S. and abroad on many topics, including general U.S. patent practices, enforcement strategies and special considerations for the electrical/computer arts.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Auchterlonie worked as Director of the Fujitsu Patent Center, Fujitsu Management Services Of America, Inc. He assembled and led a team of attorneys, paralegals, and staff focused on U.S. patent prosecution and, in the process, created and refined a cost-effective paperless business model. Before joining Fujitsu, he worked for 14 years in private practice. Early in Mr. Auchterlonie's career, he was Patent Examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, where he worked in a multidisciplinary art directed to computationally-intensive vehicle control systems.
Mr. Auchterlonie earned his J.D. from George Mason University School of Law. He earned his Masters in Engineering from the City University of New York City College and his B.S. in Physics from Dickinson College.
